Tourism is now the largest source of export earnings well before the automobile, chemical, food, computers or oil. It involves considerable investment of capital, generates substantial revenue and creates important jobs. Thus, for many countries, it is a vital source of foreign currency. The tourism sector has an important place in the Moroccan economy. It is increasingly seen by senior officials as a strategic sector to support economic development. But what about the cost to the environment and social as well as for sustainable development? The development of sustainable tourism, offering innovative discoveries with the involvement of the local population and preserve the environment, seems to be really smart and able to respond to real challenges of sustainable development in Morocco.
